Everyone deserves shelter

Our Mission

To engage the community of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County in partnership to provide shelter, compassionate support and access to services for people who are homeless.

2021-2022 Season Update

On Monday, October 4, Open Doors began the 2021/2022 Thermal shelter season. We are currently located at 771 Duke Drive, Harrisonburg (JMU D-Hub). Due to COVID-19, we have extra precautions this season. No on site late arrivals, all guests must check in between 6:30-7pm.

We will have beds at our shelter for adults 18+ on a first come, first served, basis. We are a shelter of last resort for anyone experiencing homelessness who may not qualify to stay at other shelters. We offer shelter daily from 6:30pm-7am.

For questions about shelter, please call 705-1908 or email operationsdirector@valleyopendoors.org. If no one can be reached at the office and you are in need of shelter, please call Centralized Housing Intake at 540-271-1701.
