Emergency Shelter
Initial admission to the emergency shelter is first come, first served. Once admitted into the program, guests are provided accommodations for 90 days, which can be extended on a case-by-case basis. Individuals admitted through the hypothermia program are only provided a bed night-by-night as weather warrants.

Open Doors is ADA-compliant and does not discriminate on any basis. Individuals may be asked to undergo a medical assessment to determine compatibility and appropriate accommodations during their participation in the program.

In addition to a safe place to sleep, guests receive various support services. Open Doors provides case management services, and coordinates other daily services like a monthly mobile clothing closet.

*Open Doors provides meal service when a free meal is unavailable elsewhere. Harrisonburg is fortunate to have a generous community supporting the unhoused and others facing hardships.
Drop-in Center
The drop-in center is open to the public (no age restrictions), whether unhoused or housed. The center serves as a first point of entry for those seeking health and human services in the Harrisonburg - Rockingham community. While Open Doors provides services in the drop-in center, we have also organized 5-partners that visit daily.

Resource navigation is the service that welcomes individuals to call in or to visit the center for assistance in accessing health and human services in the community. This may include utility assistance, shelter, healthcare, etc. While the service may not be available at the center, we commit to working to connect you to a local resource.
